The Brief
Our clients wanted to make better use of the unused space at the side of their property. An old coal shed had become outdated and no longer served a practical purpose, while the house lacked a dedicated utility room and convenient downstairs toilet.
Their aim was to create a functional extension that would improve everyday family life without compromising the character of the property.
Our Solution
Following the removal of the existing coal shed, Facelift Home Improvements designed and constructed a new side extension that blended seamlessly with the original house.
The extension created a spacious new utility room complete with additional worktop space, storage and room for laundry appliances, helping to keep the main kitchen organised and clutter-free.
To maximise natural light and create a bright, welcoming space, we installed a stylish roof lantern, flooding the utility room with daylight and adding a contemporary architectural feature that enhances both the appearance and feel of the extension.
Alongside the utility room, we built a modern downstairs cloakroom, providing a practical WC that’s ideal for busy family life and visiting guests.
The new extension was carefully designed to match the existing property, both internally and externally, ensuring it looked as though it had always been part of the original home.
As with all of our projects, we managed every stage of the build, from the initial groundwork and construction through to plumbing, electrics, plastering and the final finishing touches.

The Result
The Result
What was once an unused and outdated coal shed has been transformed into valuable living space that the family now uses every day.
The new utility room provides a dedicated area for laundry and household storage, freeing up space in the kitchen, while the additional downstairs WC adds convenience and practicality for both the homeowners and their guests.
The addition of the roof lantern brings an abundance of natural light into the extension, creating a bright and airy space that feels much larger than its footprint.
Although relatively modest in size, the extension has had a significant impact on the functionality of the home, proving that even smaller extensions can make a big difference to everyday living.
